Our 2011 Activities + Demos

Along with our cast of characters and performers, we have the following activites and demonstrations of medieval mastery:

  • WINGMASTERS is a partnership of two people dedicated to increasing public understandingand appreciation of North American birds of prey. Julie Anne Collier and Jim Parks are bothlicensed raptor rehabilitators based in Massachusetts.
     
  • Check the Kids Glen for paper sword, magic wand, crown and hat making as well as other crafts with Miette and Catherine and friends.
     
  • Make and Take by Lauren Hakala. Paper making, crashing sticks, wet felting vessels/nests, and necklaces. Cardboard loom kits and fleece angles, all designed for little hands and young at heart.
     
  • In the Archers Glen:
    • FREE ARCHERY for all ages, provided by Karen Given, University of Vermont Extension 4-H. Karen will also be providing an arrow making workshop for children and adults throughout the day. Limited availability per workshop. Check in to sign up.
    • Bow Maker: Marc from Hicory Arms will be giveing demonstrations on the art of Bow making.
    • Arrow maker and Long Bow Ewhen Mychajlowskyj will be showcasing arrows he has made as well as demonstrating how to long Bow technique.
       
  • Armory And Swords:
    • The Higgins Academy of the Sword, presents demonstrations of traditional and historical weapons. Dr. Ken Mondschein will present the real a horse-mounted combat demo (Joust Feild) presented by the Higgins Armory Museum in cooperation with Cornerstone Drafts.
    • The Cutting Truth of Medieval Swords — Kunstbruder presents: A Demonstration of test cutting with the Medieval sword. What Medieval Longswords can really do. And how well armor works. Hands-on lessons in the most important Knightly weapon, the Longsword. Learn the basics of attack and defense in the German tradition. All equipment provided, no experience necessary. Brought to you by Kunstbruder, the Brotherhood of the Art of Defense.
       
  • Eleanore will be cooking in medieval form, a "beehive oven!" North end, next to Robin Howard, who will be doing a flax-spinning demo.
