Mutton & Mead Benefits our Local Area
Mutton and Mead is community driven. With the help from sponsors, an array of collaborations with organizations, as well as the dedication of our Shire Cast and other Participants (Vendors, Performers, Educators) , Mutton and Mead continues to build an event that helps support our local and extended community.
Held in Turners Falls, MA, on the many acres of the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club (directions), Saturday, June 22nd and 23rd, 2013, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day, the Mutton and Mead™ Medieval Festival focuses on the mythology of Robin Hood, complete with Sherwood Forest adventures, jousting, dancing, fighting, singing, eating, skullduggery ... and collecting food for those in need!
2012 Details below. 2013 details to come.
Yes, the Mutton & Mead Medieval Festival will be hosting a food drive for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts throughout the day, and it is Robin Hood's mission to protect the food from the greedy hands of the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John!
Festival-goers who bring non-perishable food get a $1 discount off the $15 ticket price at the gate for each two items they bring, up to $3 total. The food will be gathered and stored by staff and volunteers of the Food Bank, ready to be taken away each day to a local shelter.
In 20100 the Festival raised 1750 pounds of cans and boxes, and in 2012 hopes to collect more than that per day. The Food Bank will also have a representative present at the end of the day to talk about hunger in Western Massachusetts, and to accept the gift from the Mutton & Mead.
In addition, the Festival is giving a portion of the day's profits to Montague Grange, located in Montague Center, as well as a charity chosen by the Millers Falls Rod & Gun Club, the hosts of the Mutton & Mead Festival.
